Glucosamine Complex
Glucosamine Complex is commonly comprised of Glucosamine sulphide (NaCl) and N-acetyl-glucosamine (NAG) in equal quantities, meaning that it contains two of the five main sources of Glucosamine, the others being: D-Glucosamine hydrochloride (HCI), D-Glucosamine sulphide (2KCl), and Poly N-acetyl-glucosamine (poly NAG). There are also Glucosamine Chondroitin Complexes available which contain Chondroitin sulfate as well as Glucosamine sulphide.
Glucosamine, a derivative of glucose, is a fundamental building block for the formation of the minerals required for cartilage, as well as the manufacturing of tendons, ligaments, bones, nails, and skin. It is produced naturally by the body, but as a person gets older, or if he/she has a period of prolonged ill health, the body's ability to produce Glucosamine is hindered and the person may require supplements.
Glucosamine Chondroitin Complex is most commonly used to help treat the symptoms of osteoarthritis. It is used to help rebuild cartilage and replace the synovial fluid around the joint. This in turn reduces pain because the synovial fluid helps to cushion the joints so the bones are no longer scrapping against each when moving. Glucosamine is particularly important in this state because it is the key to the manufacture of all the main ingredients in the joint fluids and surrounding tissues. Chondroitin sulfate itself is important for maintaining the structural component of cartilage and provides much of its resistance to compression, so together the two minerals can greatly help with the joint pain caused by osteoarthritis. As well as osteoarthritis, Glucosamine can also be used by patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, but since this condition is much more complex Glucosamine Chondroitin Complex is best used in conjunction with other treatments.
People with inflammatory bowel disease and/or leaky gut syndrome are also able to benefit from the Glucosamine Complex. These diseases appear when the guts become weaker and are unable to produce and use N-acetyl-glucosamine. This weakness causes the gut walls to become thinner, allowing food and bacteria to pass through into the bloodstream, causing illness. Taking Glucosamine Complex helps to heal the guts, stop the leakage, and ultimately help cure the illness itself.
The use of Glucosamine as a natural healing product has been proved in more than 300 studies and 20 clinical trials, and because Glucosamine is naturally produced and used by the body, there are no side effects. But since supplements containing D-Glucosamine hydrochloride (HCI) and D-Glucosamine sulphide (2KCl) are both derived from shellfish, people with a shellfish allergy are advised to avoid those forms of N-acetyl-glucosamine, and instead use vegan Glucosamine Complex, which is derived from vegetable sources.
Other supplements that help to produce NAG include N-acetyl-glucosamine and Poly N-acetyl-glucosamine, which are supplied separately. But since the molecules both these versions of NAG contain are larger and more complex molecules than those of Glucosamine sulphide and Glucosamine hydrochloride, they are less well absorbed by the body and so are inferior in terms of both abortion, and utilisation. Finally, Glucosamine sourced from vegetables is believed to be superior to the shellfish derivatives, both because it doesn't cause allergic reactions, but also because it is purer, making it more effective when turned into medication.
Glucosamine and Chondroitin along with MSM (methyl sulphonyl methyl) are substances in the body which are found in cartilages and are responsible for keeping the joints 'well oiled, for their flexibility and smooth functioning.
As one ages however and also with over use of these joints specially by athletes and sportsmen these substances get reduced and arthritis the most dreaded ailment and a night mare makes its presence. It is also reported that excess consumption of red meats could be a factor in hastening its arrival.
Glucosamine is found in the outer cover of shellfish and is extracted by using the hydrolysis method. It can be also extracted from corn keeping the vegetarians and those allergic to shellfish happy. Glucosamine has the capability for cartilage building as it is one of the building blocks of cartilage.
Chondroitin is found in animal cartilage and is extracted as a normal routine from sharks and cows. It can also be synthetically manufactured. Chondroitin is responsible for flexibity of the cartilage and it even plays a role in limiting the action of cartilage destroying enzymes and thus reduce inflammation.
The combination of Chondroitin and Glucosamine come in different forms. There are supplements called Glucosamine and Chondroitin complex which is a combination with vitamin c, glucosamine MSM is a combination with methyl sulfonyl methyl which aids to increase the activity of glucosamine.
There is also a combination Glucosamine and HCL and a combination with a sulfate molelcule known as Glucosamine sulfate,
Both HCL and sulphates are mere salt carriers and do not play any other major role.
There is no dearth of names for these combinations that are available in the market, glucosamine 1500 complex , glucosamine joint complex , spring valley glucosamine complex are some of them all having the same effect but christened differently.
There is no particular product more effective than the other, although there is one marketed which has a combination with Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis miller). Aloe vera being a multifaceted herb does attract users to go for this combination more than any other.
Prevention is better than cure and there are some fortunate ones who maintain their joints without having the need to go for supplements which they achieve by eating the right food and going in for the right exercises. Physiotherapy is one such therapy that goes a long way in keeping the joints intact. A regular intake of calcium keep the bones healthy which have a direct bearing on the joints as well.
There are a few who are allergic to while taking these supplements which have to be taken on a daily basis where Glucosamine is extracted from the outer cover of shellfish. There is a solution to this. They could go for the one extracted from corn and it is necessary that they choose the right name that contains this extract.
The good news is that there are no reported side effects even taken for a protracted period of time, excepting it is recommended that pregnant women should not take these supplements as no research has been completed in this regard.
